New President
New Mexico Angels has a new President, effective February 1, 2008. John J. Chavez is taking over for Jerry Mattingly, who served as the President of NMA for three years. We wish Jerry much success and happiness as he steps down, but he will remain active within NMA; he will remain on the Board of Directors, on the Screening Committees and on the Education Committee.
John J. Chavez is the President of Tafoya and Brainerd Partners LLC, a nationwide business development consulting firm. Mr. Chavez is also the Director of State Government Solutions at Financial Management Systems, a Chicago based financial services firm. In addition, John has been an active angel investor since 2003. John is a Member of the Board of Directors for One Connect Internet Telephone Company, a New Mexico Angels member portfolio company. Prior to creating Tafoya and Brainerd Partners LLC, Mr. Chavez was appointed by New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson as the Cabinet Secretary of the Taxation and Revenue Department. Mr. Chavez served as Cabinet Secretary for six years and as the President of the Federation of Taxation Administrators for one year. John is also a Member of the Board of Directors of the Squash Blossom Classic – an organization that organizes a yearly adventure sport event in McKinley County.

Recent Investments
During 2006, NMA members had nine separate companies make presentations to them for the purpose of investments. Two companies were recipients of funds totalling $350,000; these were Holochip, Inc. and CashStream, Inc. In addition, two separate term sheets went out to presenting companies; these were Healthy Buildings Made Easy and HT Micro. These term sheets were not accepted by the companies at year end.
During 2007, NMA invested $365,000 in Gourmet Pet Supply. In addition to that investment, we were joined by Mesa Capital Partners for an additional $300,000. We also invested $95,000 in Acoustic Cytometry Systems, Inc., $50,000 in Knowledge Reef Systems, as well as follow-on investments of $30,000 in Holochip, Inc. and $80,000 in One Connect IP.
Members Only Section
This new website has a section for members to communicate with each other regarding a variety of topics. If you are a member, please make sure to register on the Home Page, and then go to the “Members” section and create or edit your profile. You will create and/or edit your profile, including a brief resume, upload a digital photograph, list your email for other members to contact you, create a user name and password that you will use to log on to that section of the site (no one associated with the organization will know your password), etc. This site is used to elicit comments regarding presenting companies, to ballot voting for Board members, to taking polls regarding member desires, making general postings for any and all members, etc. Basically anything and everything that a member would like to converse about with another member or a few members.
