La Plata Economic Development Alliance Partners with New Mexico Angels to Host Angel Investment Dinner for Start-Ups on August 1 in Durango

DURANGO, CO, July 22, 2014 – The La Plata Economic Development Alliance and the New Mexico Angels announced today that they will be holding an Angel Investment Dinner at Durango Mountain Resort on Friday, August 1 at 5:15pm. The event is designed to bring entrepreneurs and angel investors together to fund start-up companies in the region.

“We believe in the power of angel investing and the potential of small businesses in Southern Colorado who might need this type of capital,”

said New Mexico Angels’ President, John Chavez who will be co-hosting the event. Over the past few years the New Mexico Angels have been hearing pitches from companies in Northeast New Mexico and Southwest Colorado who are looking for a different kind of funding. “Angel funding is more than just capital. We invest our personal dollars in exchange for equity, while providing the company with advice and coaching from our industry experts to help accelerate them to market leadership,” said Chavez.

The partnership came out of a desire from La Plata Economic Development Alliance’s Executive Director, Roger Zalneraitis to get more funding options to the area, especially second tier funding for SCAPE graduates.

SCAPE’s Elizabeth Marsh said of the event, “We are so excited that the New Mexico Angels will be here to expand the entrepreneurial community.  We are proud of Sit-Ins, a SCAPE graduate, who will be presenting. This evening is a great collaboration between investors and economic development organizations in our region who are dedicated to supporting job creation.”

Speakers at the event include John Chavez and Dorian Rader of New Mexico Angels, Roger Zalneraitis of La Plata Economic Development Alliance, Ray Hagerman, CEO of Four Corners Economic Development, and Matt Taylor, CEO of Mercury Payment Systems.

The event will spotlight two innovative start-up companies pitching to investors for funding. Sit-Ins is a Durango-based company and recent graduate of the SCAPE program who will be presenting on their music education app. EcoPesticides International is an Albuquerque based company who has created a novel way of treating pests with naturally occurring fungi.

Investors and entrepreneurs alike are invited to attend to network, learn more about angel investing, and enjoy great presentations. Dinner and drinks will be served. Register online at: www.nmangels.com
